Writhlington Tennis Centre hosted this year’s Mini Tennis Competition, inviting over fifty primary students, aged 7–9, from schools across the district to compete in the Wesport County competition.
Writhlington coaching team, comprising of students from Writhlington and Mendip Studio School, were invited to help facilitate the large event that celebrates the sporting talent of some of the county’s finest young tennis players.
Amanda Stonier, Head of Tennis, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed watching and overseeing this tournament. It is the culmination of years of hard work by my coaching team and other coaches in the area, who are ensuring tennis in Midsomer Norton is thriving, not only with adults, but also with the children who are the future of the sport.”
Twelve teams competed for a place in the Wesport County finals and after a competitive afternoon, Midsomer Norton Primary will be joining other schools from across the county to represent Midsomer Norton in the heated final on Wednesday, 6th July at the University of Bath. Dave Burston, from Schools Partnership, said: “This is an excellent way for children to experience competitive tennis in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. A huge vote of thanks must go to the coaches and the young leaders and volunteer students at Writhlington who helped to ensure the tournament ran smoothly. We hope these young people are now encouraged to play more tennis at the numerous clubs and centres in B&NES area.”
