Mendip’s fixture against a strong Nailsea outfit on Saturday proved to be something of a game of two halves. The first half saw Mendip passing well, with Georgia Price and Katie Riches combining particularly well down the right.
The Mendip defence were made to work very hard by their opponents, but, marshalled well by goalkeeper, Jenny Dalimore, they looked to be in control. Nailsea did manage to take the lead midway through the first half after a goalmouth scramble, but Mendip were very much in contention at half-time.
The second half saw Nailsea’s experienced players find another gear and they doubled their lead straight from the restart. Player of the Match, Amy MacGowan, then pulled one back for Mendip, with a fine solo goal which beat the Nailsea keeper at her near post. From here on in, it was all Nailsea, with their central attacking players exploiting their pace to score a further five goals without reply. Mendip showed typical determination to the end, but they were unable to find a further consolation goal. This Saturday, Mendip face Mid-Somerset at Norton Hill, pushback at 10.30 a.m.
