On Tuesday, 12th November, the Coppers (Novice Ladies working

towards obtaining a handicap and Ladies with handicaps of 33 to 36) played for the Coppers Scratch Salver over eighteen holes on the nine-hole Manor Course. Nadine Spong was the clear winner, with a round of 83 that included a hole in one on the fourth hole. Maureen Tayler was runner-up, with 88 on countback. Nearest the pin on the first hole was won by Marjorie Robinson and nearest the pin on the eighth hole was won by Sue Barnes.

As Coppers meets monthly, the results of the Coppers Summer Eclectic on the Duchy Course were

announced with the trophy presented during the Salver's presentation. Nadine Spong won the Coppers Eclectic, with an eclectic round of 95. Sue Barnes came second, with an eclectic round of 102.

On Thursday, 14th November, 41 ladies took part in a Qualifying Stableford that was made particularly challenging by an impromptu hail storm that resulted in white-carpeted greens. Those lucky enough to go out late missed the fun of putting over settled ice stones! Thankfully, the stones melted relatively quickly, disrupting, on average, two holes for the players on the course at the time.

The competition's CSS

attests to the challenges of the day. Terri O'Shea's winning score of 37 Stableford points was tremendous for the day. Jenny Howarth and Sharman Bradshaw were second and third respectively, with 34 points on countback. Terri O'Shea achieved two two spots on the day, one on the fifth hole and one on the fifteenth hole. Suzanne Young had a two spot on the eighth hole and Aimee Sawyer had a two spot on the fifteenth hole.

Eleven ladies took part in Saturday, 16th November's Qualifying Stableford. Scores at the winning end were

fantastic. Dawn Stacey came first, with 41 Stableford points, amassing nine pars in the round. Clare Salter came second, with 39 Stableford points and Gail Proctor came third, with 38 Stableford points. Dawn Stacey and Clare Salter both enjoyed two shot cuts to their handicap with Gail Proctor seeing a one shot reduction in her handicap.

The Grass Roots (Adams) Trophy is awarded by the Somerset Ladies County Golf Association (SLCGA) for the best score in relation to the CSS of the course played in a Medal Round in July and August by a player with a handicap of between 29 and 36. Farrington Park's Pitti Morris won the Grass Roots Medal for Division Two on Thursday, 18th July, with a gross round of 96, nett 65, and saw her handicap cut by four shots from 31 to 27. We knew that the round was good at the time, but were thrilled when we later discovered that the round was the county-wide winning round for the Grass Roots Trophy. The trophy was presented to Farrington Park's County Representative, Jean Sage, at last week's SLCGA's AGM. Last year's Lady Captain, Sharman Bradshaw, presented Pitti with the trophy after Thursday's Qualifying Stableford.

Farrington Park Men

Playing off the white tees, the man in form for Saturday's Stableford (9th November) was Danny Durbin, topping Division One for the second week running, with 39 points. This was closely followed by Chris Shanks, with 38 points, and Jon Calway in third place, with 36 points.

In Division Two, Paul Fackrell had an outstanding forty points score on a cold, drizzly day, with Dave Jewell, on 38 points, beating into third place, Phil Button on countback, who also scored 38 points.

On a sunny day for a change, Paul Thomas won

Division One of the Sunday Stableford, held on 10th November, with 36 points, beating Paul Broadway's 36 points on countback. Ian Biddle was a close third, with 35 points. In Division Two, Tony Guthrie made good use of the better playing conditions, scoring 35 points, closely followed by Oliver Nash, with 34 points, and Mark Jennings in third place, with 28 points.

Farrington Park Seniors

Farrington Park Seniors competed in a Texas Scramble for their weekly competition. Once again, a large field

enjoyed the first taste of

cold weather as winter

approaches, playing in the first significant frost of the season, this, however, did not prevent some excellent scores being posted.
