Peasedown Athletic 2 Welton Rovers Res 1
On a sunny day, Peasedown entertained local rivals, Welton Rovers Reserves, at the Rec. Peasedown won a free kick early on. J. Woodland delivered and T. Woodland headed wide.
C. Pile got clear down the right and picked out S. Newton with a pass, bringing a save from C. Miller in the Welton goal.
Peasedown's pressure paid off when D. Reynolds made a fine pass to C. Pile, who controlled the ball and lobbed C. Miller for 1–0 on ten minutes.
After J. Mounty had beaten J. Woodland, his goalbound shot was blocked by T. Woodland. D. Reynolds' pass to C. Walton down the left saw his cross cleared by J. Sims.
Welton forced a corner taken by M. Andrade and D. Reynolds headed clear. Both sides played attractive football on their build-ups, but goalmouth excitement was missing.
For Welton, J. Mounty's free kick was well off the mark. Peasedown attacked and S. Newton's long shot was held well under the bar by C. Miller. L. Litterick's hard shot was blocked by J. Wyatt. In a lacklustre first half, Peasedown led 1–0.
At the start of the second half, M. Seviour's good play down the left beat D. Groves and he passed to D. Reynolds, who shot and C. Miller saved well at the foot of the post.
Welton retaliated and A. Pritchard's effort whizzed wide. Peasedown sprang forward and L. Litterick passed to N. Hulford who then released C. Walton and his fine shot was brilliantly saved by C. Miller at full stretch.
Peasedown pressed again and J. Woodland crossed. N. Hulford controlled the ball before lifting his shot over Miller leaving the score at 2–0 on 65 minutes.
At the other end, C. Allard made a timely save to deny M. Parsons. N. Hulford found C. Walton and Miller brought off a good save. Peasedown came again and C. Pile's fine effort brought a brilliant save from Miller.
On ninety minutes, A. Pritchard scored a consolation goal to bring the score to 2–1, but Peasedown registered nine straight wins.
Man of the Match went to Tom Woodland and Clive and Margaret Fletcher donated new kit to Peasedown in memory of Connie Ashman.
