After two consecutive away defeats, Mendip approached this home fixture against top-of-the-table Clifton with some trepidation. They need not have worried. An awesome team performance saw them earn a well-deserved three points to close the gap at the top.

Katie Riches opened the scoring, with a great close-range strike after some excellent passing and movement down the right. Mendip then forced a penalty corner, which Cherylin Carey dispatched on the rebound to put her side two up.

The second half saw more superb performances from the Mendip squad, with the defence making some crunching tackles and keeper, Carrie Tiley, making a number of notable saves. Clifton ensured an exciting final two minutes with a fine individual goal from their centre forward, but Mendip held on for the win.
