Norton Radstock Swimming Club began their winter season by competing in the Dave Bryant Memorial Trophy Gala.
The gala was hosted by Bristol Penguins Olympic Swimming Club at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, Weston. A team of thirty swimmers from Norton Radstock, all aged twelve years and under, competed against six local teams across 53 events.
There were first places for Zac Keeling in the Boys 11/u 50m Breaststroke and Kate Rowell in the Girls 12/u 50m Freestyle and the Girls 12/u Freestyle relay team, together with Harriet Hawkins, Millie Long and Hannah Angell. Six young swimmers made their competitive debuts for the team: Thomas Hobbs, Morgan Lovell, Joe Derrick, Mia Francis, Isabella Young and Zoe Parsons. A tremendous effort was made by all of the swimmers and a record number of personal best times were achieved in 27 of the 36 individual events.
Norton Radstock were placed fifth in the event, with Cirencester the overall winners. Team representatives, Andrew Mateer and Hannah Angell, collected the shield on behalf of the team.
A club spokesperson said: "There were some very promising swims from our young squad members. We are sure this will continue into the new season."
