On Thursday evening, Norton travelled to Brislington to play Gordano in a semi-final of the Somerset Vase.
Playing under lights and having the slight advantage of the slope, Norton started at a quick pace and soon started to put pressure on the opposition's line. This pressure eventually resulted in a score for James Fuller, following a catch and drive from a line out. Gordano were struggling with the pace that Norton wanted to play at and continually tried to slow the pace of the game down.
Norton's second try came from an attack in their own half, ending with winger, Tom Rideout, out pacing the defence to put the ball down in the right hand corner. The referee questioned the touch judge, who confirmed the score. Strong running by the Norton forwards, notably Gimson, Denning, Button and Fear, kept the Gordano defence on the back foot and stretched. This caused a hole in the defence after three phases, allowing centre, Jack Rowles, to burst through for the sides third try under the posts.
Gordano started the second half much more positively and soon scored a try to add to their first half penalty goal. When, after a lofted kick, Rideout lost sight of the ball in the floodlights, the ball fell advantageously for his opposition winger, who collected and scored in the corner. The second half then became a battle of defences with the Norton team confining the opposition to their own half for large parts of the forty minutes.
The team's only score of the half came from the boot of fly half, Ben Taylor, who slotted over a penalty from 40m. The game finished 22–8 in Norton's favour.
