After a glorious summer at Farrington Park, the final open competition of the year will be remembered for the wet and blustery conditions that players had to endure. The Mixed Autumn Open saw 72 competitors from around the West Country battle it out for the coveted first prize in the Four Ball Better Ball Stableford Competition.

Farrington Park players, father and daughter combination, John and Aimee Sawyer, came in early with an excellent 43 points, with Wells pair, Mike Metcalfe and Erica Klim, following closely with 42. The current Somerset Ladies Champion, Victoria Watts, playing with father, Sean, had a creditable 41 points, with fellow Farrington Park members, Steve Hobbs and Jo Carter, pipping them with 42 points.

As the misty rain came in stronger, it was Farrington players, Paul Thomas and Paula Chivers, who matched the Sawyer's early 43 points, but with their final nine holes of 24 points, beat them into second place on the best back nine.

"Considering the wet conditions, the course held up amazingly well. I would like to thank the organisers for a great day and congratulate the chefs for the great food after the round," said eleven handicap, Paul Thomas.
