Paulton maintained their unbeaten run in a hard-fought contest on a heavy pitch at Winterfield Road last Saturday.

There was an early penalty appeal, when Rovers' striker, Scott Wilson, appeared to be nudged, but it was turned away and Corby responded with a dangerous run from the lively Ben Milnes down the right, with Sam Teale clearing under pressure.

Connor Kennedy linked well with Shayne Byrne as the Steel Men pressed and Milnes shot narrowly wide. Ashley Wiliams had a midfield battle with Corby Captain, Cleveland Taylor, whilst Rovers' comparative terrier, Dean Evans, was stopping Byrne's effectiveness.

Wilson Cavalaho had a great chance for the visitors with Nkunga snuffing out the danger. Jon Davies broke down the left and was fouled. His resultant free kick fell to Scott Brice, but the Paulton Captain did not get any power and Paul Walker held easily.

Rovers' right back, Shayne Anson, made a great last-ditch tackle to prevent Cavalaho bearing down on the home goal. Paul Malone shot weakly, giving Paulton keeper, Kyle Phillips, an easy save.

The second half saw Taylor blast a chance over the bar after Cavalaho broke and found him in space. Nkunga was on hand twice to stop Cavalaho and on the break, Wilson chased down a long ball and Walker slipped, then recovered, as Wilson looked odds-on to get there first with the goal at his mercy.

Corby had a goal disallowed as Weir-Daley was clearly offside. As play swung from end to end, Malone stopped Wilson as he bore down on goal.

Davies was looking his sharpest since returning from injury and making his first start since Boxing Day. On 79 minutes, Williams hit a throughball and Davies raced into the box, only to be brought down by Kalern Thomas, who was shown a red card for preventing a goal-scoring opportunity.

Wilson sent Walker the wrong way from the penalty spot to give the Somerset side the 1–0 lead. Corby tried to level, but it was Paulton who nearly added to the score with Davies off target.

Team: Kyle Phillips, Shayne Anson, Sam Teale, Jordy Nkunga, Scott Brice (C), Darren Jefferies (sub., Liam Monelle, 70 minutes), Dean Evans, Ashley Williams, Scott Wilson (Clayton Green, 85), Mitchell Page, Jon Davies (Mike Bryant, 88). Paulton Rovers' First Team are away to another promotion chasing side, Redditch United, this weekend, kick-off at 3 p.m. The coach will depart the club at 10.30 a.m., but supporters wishing to travel need to add their names to the list in the clubhouse and check the website: http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/paultonrovers">www.pitchero.com/clubs/paultonrovers for updates.

The Sunday XI went back to the top of the Bath and District Sunday League Division Five with a great win against one of their main rivals, Sporting Bath, who they beat 1–0 away at Box. This Sunday, they are home to FC Norton, who they beat 4–0, away on 11th January. However, FC Norton beat Sporting Bath, 1–0, in a cup match two weeks ago, so a tough match is in prospect. The Youth Team game last Thursday at home to Hengrove Athletic was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Unless another game is rearranged they do not have a planned game until away at Brislington on 24th February.
