After a lengthy Christmas break, Mendip returned to league action on Saturday with a fine win against a determined Vale outfit.
Mendip had the better of the first-half chances, and Cherilyn Carey gave them a deserved lead with an excellent penalty corner strike just before half-time.
Hayley Bullock converted another penalty corner with a trademark near post shot early in the second half to give Mendip a two-goal lead.
Strong running from Brenda Scott, Maddie Collins and Megan Carey saw Mendip create chances to go further ahead, but a third goal proved elusive.
Taunton Vale upped their work-rate late on, putting the Mendip defence under pressure, but centre-back Anna Swift put in a ‘player of the match’ performance, making some solid tackles to ensure a clean sheet.
This Saturday, Mendip welcome second-placed Winscombe to Norton Hill at 1.30 p.m.
