Last week, Prattens Bowls Club held their Christmas Social in the club pavilion. Members (and friends) were asked to bring food to share, drink and prizes for a raffle.
During the evening, we had a quiz and a beetle tournament, as well as the raffle and lots of conversation and fun. The winner of the beetle tournament was Eric Doel, with his wife, Caryl, finishing a close second. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening (and food).
One major topic of conversation was the Warner's Lakeside at Hayling Island Open Fours Bowls Competition. Four of Prattens members entered the competition as one of twenty-four teams, mostly from the Sussex and Kent areas.
The players who entered were Margaret and Roy Harvey, along with Pauline and Barrie Dando. On the Friday evening and Saturday, they played four games in a group and won three of them (drawing the other). This made them group winners and they then moved into the quarter-final.
The final rounds were played on the Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. They progressed to the final, which commenced at 4 p.m. and was played against a four from Brighton. When the game reached the final end, the score was ten shots each and the Prattens four won the last end by one shot with Roy Harvey declining to bowl his last wood.
As a result of this, the four players won a new bowls bag each and an invitation to take part in next October's Champion of Champions tournament with £3,000 prize money available. Congratulations to Margaret, Pauline, Barrie and Roy for their success (so far).
