Peasedown gave Purnell the blues at Greyfields, reports Martin Cox.

Peasedown Athletic started this game at Greyfields missing five players from the previous week, but the makeshift team did not take long to take control of the game. After three minutes, Steve Brimble played a pass from midfield through to Tom Owen and the youngster sped away to confidently score his first goal in adult football.

Purnell battled away and at times looked dangerous, but with twelve minutes gone, Adam James slipped the ball through to Tom Owen and he coolly placed the ball past the keeper.

On the half-hour, Owen, on the turn, lobbed the ball over the defenders for Adam Bowring to race through and put Peasedown three up.

Purnell were frustrated when the few attempts they mustered were competently saved by keeper, Michael Shepperd, including a sprawling, full-length dive to deny the home team.

After the break, Peasedown continued where they had left off and kept on the pressure. Consequently, it was no surprise when Owen grabbed his

hat-trick – a superb pass from Bowring had found him outside the box and a smartly hit shot hit the back of the net.

With their heads up, Peasedown continued to press and on 75 minutes Owen scored his fourth goal. Purnell, with nothing to lose, went all out attack and only some excellent defending from Seviour, Allen, Prandy, Smalley and Tucker kept the Peasedown goal safe. Purnell eventually scored from a free kick that sailed into the top corner from thirty yards. With the game nearly up, Kevin Allen raced through midfield and belted the ball in from 25 yards to wrap up a fine performance for Peasedown.
