Mendip celebrated their fourth-place finish in Brunel Division 3 with a resounding victory away to Bristol Bluebirds.

Mendip had the better of the early chances, but it was Bluebirds who took the lead after a goal-mouth scramble. Emma Moffat got the visitors back on terms with a coolly taken penalty stroke following an offence on the Bluebirds’ goal line. Despite some ferocious attacking, including a series of shots from forward, Amy Macgowan, the score remained 1–1 until half-time.

The second half began with a flurry of goals. Mendip midfielder, Katie Riches, scored her first of the season after a storming run, before Bluebirds pulled level. Mendip really began to find their rhythm from here on in, with Riches scoring two further goals to complete an excellent hat-trick and Maddison Collins adding a deserved brace to make it 6.

This was an excellent performance, which encapsulated the outstanding commitment, determination and skill shown by Captain, Lucy Hemings’ young team all season.

The unanimous player of the match vote went to Katie Riches.
