Midsomer Norton 2nds carried on their winning ways with a trip to Nailsea and Backwell at the weekend.

With many local fixtures cancelled due to the heavy rain, the team were greeted by a very wet pitch and it was obvious this was going to be a game won upfront.

Norton started the game playing up the hill and into the wind, but weren’t as sharp as they needed to be. Poor communication from kick off and indiscipline in defence saw Nailsea set up camp in the Norton 22 and it wasn’t long before they grabbed the first score of the game. This was the wake-up call that Norton needed and from there on in they dominated the game.

Strong scrummaging from the front row of Backhurst, Bicknell end Edgell gave the backs a good platform to work from, the boot of Ben Moon put Norton in the right areas, Joe Knight jumped well in the line out and an immense return from injury for Jamie Rose saw him constantly making hard yards. Norton grabbed two scores in the first half with Rose and Knight getting on the score board, Moon converting both.

The second half saw Norton come out the starting blocks sharper, good work on the wing saw Jason Holmewood grab himself a brace, one as the result of a beautiful no look offload from Sonny Ben Taylor. Both Rideouts impacted the game, Jack slicing through the opposition defence to set up Jack Johnson and Tom hacking the ball ahead for Nath Fear to collect over the line. Nailsea however, had a strong finish to the game and managed to score twice from close range, despite fierce defence from the likes of Luis Deville. The game finished 38–15 to Norton who remain top of the table.
