The Thirds continued their unbeaten start to the season when they travelled to Yatton on Saturday. The weather conditions were not ideal for fluent rugby, or goal kicking, but both teams battled hard, with Norton eventually coming out on top with a bonus point victory.

Playing down the slope in the first half, Norton had the better of the opening exchanges, but were finding it difficult to get over the line. Some good Yatton defending saw a number of chances missed, before winger, Jack Packer, powered over after a storming run.

The scrum was a key area for Norton, which enabled them to exert pressure on the Yatton defence all afternoon. This enabled number eight, Tyron Dallimore, to pick up and drive over from close range to double Norton’s advantage.

Returning winger, Joe Travetti, was also on the scoresheet before half-time, when he pounced on a well-weighted cross field kick from fly-half, Jon Swift.

With the wind at their backs, Yatton came more into the game in the second half, and scored when their burly fly half powered over from close range.

Norton hit back almost immediately when Swift stretched to the line after a period of good, attacking play.

Yatton again threatened a comeback when one of their quick-thinking replacements took a tap penalty and was under the posts for a converted try.

Norton, however, closed the game out in style. Winger, Ben Johnson, made valuable metres on the outside and his pass inside saw Ed Dickens power over for a well-deserved try to clinch the win.

Norton have a rest week next Saturday before hosting Chard on Saturday, 21st October.
