MNRFC 3rds 34 WINCANTON 1sts 22
The thirds recovered from a half-time deficit to take the spoils in this Somerset 3 South league fixture. Both sides played their part in a well contested game, both earning try scoring bonus points.
The visitors started the brightest and raced into a 17-0 lead, scoring three unanswered tries before Norton began their fightback. Norton lock, Dafydd Evans, made an excellent return from a long absence with two well-taken first-half tries, one of which was converted by fly-half, Steve Penny, to close the gap.
The second period saw Norton dominate for longer.
Wincanton still managed to register a well-taken try of their own, but Norton gradually wore them down. This enabled number eight, Will Edgell, to power over for the first of his two tries of the afternoon. Penny again added the conversion.
From the resulting restart, flanker, Nath Fear, caught the kick-off and raced a full eighty metres. He was brought down just short, but when the ball was swept wide replacement centre, Ben Matthews, was on-hand to go over for an excellent team try.
Edgell powered over once again to give Norton the lead, and the win was sealed when winger, Josh Rodd, went over wide out for a well-deserved try.
This weekend, the Thirds are on the road as they travel away to Chard.
