Playing at home, Clevedon took an early lead with a simple penalty goal inside the first minute and extended the gap with an unconverted try.

Clevedon scored their second try when having won the ball against the head, their centre picked a brilliant line to score close to the posts. The half was one-way traffic, with all the possession Clevedon’s – Norton could not get into the game, dropping off of tackles and not pressurising the gain line.

Clevedon scored next, following a chip over the defence and beating the Norton players to the ball. This was the pattern for the whole first half, with Clevedon collecting 37 unanswered points. Norton’s problems increased when second row, Gimson, was forced to leave the field with a head injury.

Norton started the second half with some belief of their ability and put Clevedon under pressure for some long periods. Mat Edgell returned to the front row, allowing Norton to get some parity in the scrummage, which allowed replacement scrum half, Jack Johnson, to score Norton’s only points of the game.

The second half was much more even until the last ten minutes, when the home side ran in two tries, taking the final score to 59–5. Norton can take some comfort out of the game as the performances of a trio of young players, Mitch Rose, Joe Knight and Sam Church showed their promise for the future.
