The Thirds played their first game of 2018 on Saturday, when they travelled to unbeaten league-leaders, Taunton.

Despite boasting a strong side, Norton were undone by a quality team who are clearly going to cruise to the title. Due to internal issues, Taunton have had to start again in Somerset Three South, but providing they can keep their side together, look more than capable of climbing the leagues.

Norton found themselves up against it from the start as the speed of the Taunton side allowed them to dominate the open spaces. Their pace enabled them to secure the bonus point before half-time. Norton battled well though, and stemmed the flow with some excellent defence, especially in the second period when the game became more even.

Hooker Tom Holloway made a welcome return for the club, along with fly-half Rob Fuller, who kicked Norton’s only points. Lock Ty Moss also put in a guest appearance as he made his way back to Cornwall, where he is now based.

This Saturday, 13th January, Norton entertain Frome in their eagerly anticipated return league fixture. Kick-off: 2.15 p.m.
