MIDSOMER NORTON 3rds 48 CHEDDAR 2nds 10
Midsomer Norton’s Thirds were centre stage on Saturday as the other teams took a break from competitive League rugby.
The Thirds entertained Cheddar, looking to reverse their narrow loss in the previous League fixture. After an even first half, they pulled away in the second to secure an eight-try bonus point win.
Norton started well, with number eight, Dafydd Evans, carrying strongly and the rest of the team feeding off of this. Before long, the ball was spread wide and full-back, Josh Rodd, went over in the corner. The lead was soon doubled when Evans went over from close range, and it appeared Norton were in control.
Their visitors had other ideas, however, and fought back strongly to dominate the remainder of the half. They deservedly scored two tries of their own to pull level.
With the slope now with them, Norton returned to form in the second period. Fly-half, Jon Swift, found his kicking boots and this enabled Norton to exert more and more pressure.
This dominance enabled Norton to secure the win, with fine tries from Martin Blackmore, Dan Nesbitt, Andrew Best, and a brace for Josh Carter. The try of the game, however, was scored by ‘snake hips’ Swift, who dummied his way to the line for an excellent score. Best added one conversion and Nesbitt two others to seal a good all-round team performance.
Next week, the Thirds are on the road when they travel to table-topping Wyvern.
