WINCANTON 1sts 59 MIDSOMER NORTON 3rds 19

The Thirds found themselves well-beaten on Saturday, when they took on a strong

Wincanton First team in Somerset Third Division South.

Norton just didn’t get started, and this allowed the hosts to race away with the game from the off. Despite not dominating the game, they pounced on a number of Norton errors to cruise into a commanding half-time lead.

The one bright point for the visitors was an excellent try by number eight, Steve Dunster, who stormed over from close range. After the break, Norton finally came to life, and started to play some good rugby.

The pressure started to tell, and they claimed two well-deserved tries. Firstly, scrum-half, Dan Moon, pounced, following some good work from the forwards to snipe around the corner of a ruck. Full-back, Greg Morgan, added the conversion.

Soon after, centre, Kieron Baker, took a great pass from fly-half, Jon Swift, and powered his way to the line. Again, Morgan converted, and Norton looked like they might grab a bonus point.

Wincanton fought their way back though and scored a couple of tries of their own to maintain their lead and seal their win. Next week, Norton host Chard at Norton Down; 3 p.m. kick-off.
