NORTH PETHERTON 13 MIDSOMER NORTON UNDER-18S 10

Norton travelled to North Petherton for a rare Colts Saturday match in the Quarter-Final of the Somerset Cup.

What a great cup match it was, with both teams giving their all. Both had plenty of chances to score more points, but a great defensive effort stopped this happening.

‘Pethy’ were the first to score after five minutes, after getting the ball out wide, their quick winger going over in the corner.

Norton then came back into the game and squandered a couple of chances to hit back. Their scrum was super dominant and their ball retention into contact was good.

Turning around at the interval, Henry pulled the scores level after a strong drive from close range.

The home team then broke away against the run of play and one missed tackle at the back of a lineout allowed their backs to break clear and retake the lead.

With ten minutes left, Finn’s try levelled the scores.

Five minutes from the end, Pethy kicked a penalty to lead 13–10. Even though the visitors bombarded the home defence in the remaining time, they were unable to get over the line.

A great performance by both teams.

Norton travel to Combe Down on Sunday for a friendly match.
