The start of the game was initially poor, with the kick not going the required ten meters, but from the resulting scrum, the Norton pack were able to apply pressure, resulting in the Chew fly half throwing a wild pass that scavenging expert, Sam Church, was able to pounce on and run in for an early try. Even though his drop kicks were not quite on the money, Murphy, fresh from target practice in Kenya, was deadly off the tee, striking five out of seven conversions through the uprights.
Edgell, with two tries from a combined total of two meters, Withers, Powney and Parfitt got themselves on the scoresheet, but the highlight was a great individual run by Lewis Dyer, who beat three players within a foot of the touchline to race into the corner.
The game was played in good spirit and this was an improved performance on the previous week. The score line would have been more to Norton’s liking if they had taken more chances when overlaps appeared, and if the scrum had not gone uncontested during the second half due to injuries to Chew players. Plenty to work on, but the signs are positive for the upcoming trip to Cheddar.
