The much-anticipated start of the Somerset 2 North campaign at Norton Down saw Norton get off to a flyer with an impressive, relentless and disciplined win.
From the kick-off, Norton gathered the ball and immediately used the wind to their advantage by sending it deep into Old C’s territory, resulting in a try from the stolen line out.
Midsomer Norton completely dominated possession in the set piece and produced some excellent handling in the slippery conditions, combined with hard direct running that Old C’s were unable to cope with as they simply ran out of defenders.
This was every inch an excellent team performance, so picking out individuals seems pointless, however, Will Edgell’s powerful running in the loose is something worth noting. Indeed, Old Culverhasians certainly won’t forget the experience of trying to tackle him. Edgell was disappointed to have to drop into the back row, because he was enjoying playing so well at prop. His four tries will come as some consolation and he will get his wish of playing a full game at prop if he keeps performing like this.
Next week, the team travel to Stothert and Pitt and expect nothing less than another disciplined and committed performance resulting in a bonus point victory.
