Old Sulians 7 Midsomer Norton 2nds 8

Midsomer Norton Seconds continued their good start to 2020 with a hard-fought away win against Old Sulians.

The first half was a scrappy affair, with mistakes from both sides leading to plenty of turnovers in possession, contesting the breakdown effectively, ensuring there was no clean ball for either backline.

Norton were guilty of playing too much rugby in their own half, as Old Sulians managed to turn the ball over and spread it out wide to go over for the first try of the match.

Norton responded well in the second half, learning to play in the right areas of the pitch and dominating possession. Despite multiple handling errors, the set piece continued to function well.

Norton soon found themselves camped in the opposition half, where multiple infringements from the Sulians side led to a yellow card and winger, Evans, crossing in the corner to make it 7–5.

Norton continued to grow in confidence, working their way down the pitch, thanks to Moon and Evans which pinned Old Sulians back. Further errors from the Norton side seemed to put victory out of grasp, but continued pressure saw Old Sulians concede a second yellow card and a penalty. T. Rideout stepped up with the clock in the red to seal a last minute win.

This sees Norton go three wins out of four so far in 2020; a record they will look to build on with the visit of local rivals, Chew Valley.
