Somer AC Running Club had just over thirty members who ran a fifteen mile cross country route around the local area.

As with previous years, it was done in fancy dress – with this year’s theme being a tribute to key workers, hence the plethora of policemen, doctors, nurses, teachers and postmen.

Awards were given to the best male and female fancy dress, whilst there were also some forfeits with runners having to carry inflatable fun items.

The start and finish point was Tuckers Grave, to follow a figure of 8 route through our beautiful countryside, puncuated by rest stops at local hostelries.

Our first leg to the Apple Tree at Shoscombe, before braving the rain and the climb through Foxcote before a quick snack stop at Turner’s Tower. We then headed via Ammerdown to have lunch at the Jolliffe Arms, whose landlord also adjudicated on the fancy dress competition.

It was a short hop to the Fromeway where we were bathed in sunshine before running through the back of Writhlington to weave across the fields to Turner’ Tower and a second snack stop. We then dived down to Hemington before climbing back to the Faulkland Inn and then back to Tuckers Grave to enjoy their BBQ.
