Sporting fever hit Peasedown last week at the Peasedown Churches Together Holiday Club, which had a special sporting theme to get local children excited about the Olympic Games.

'Run the Race' was an action-packed three days of games and activities, which took place last Tuesday to Thursday, for children aged between 5–11-years-old and was organised by Rob Bubyer, children's worker for St John's Church, Peasedown St John. He said: "This year is like no other. Both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 are historic events for the UK.

"The Jubilee was hugely celebrated locally with street parties, special events and church services. Now, it's the turn of the Olympics to bring people together, encourage residents to do something different and celebrate the very best of British sporting talent."

Run the Race featured quizzes, crafts, games, songs and other activities focused around the Olympics. Children made their own medals, cups, hats and windmills, had a go on the giant bouncy castle and took part in sports such as javelin throwing (with paper planes) and egg catching (a messy business!) The activities ended on Thursday lunchtime with perfect weather for a giant family barbecue – scorching!
