After conceding a goal in the first five minutes, Mendip Seconds woke up and fought hard for the equaliser. This eventually came from solid defender, Sarah Whittaker, who smacked the ball straight across the D, where Carol Holmes coolly collected it from the post and fired home.
With the score now level, there was everything to play for in the second-half. Ella Constable, at left midfield, played a stormer, winning every tackle and very rightfully earning her Player of the Match title. Jess Baird was instrumental in many attacking moves, venturing out of her left-back comfort zone and firing many crosses into the D.
Unfortunately, although many short corners were awarded, Mendip could not seem to get past the keeper again. Devastatingly, in the last ten minutes, a Firebrand attacker wildly swung and connected with the ball, sending it straight into the back of the goal.
Despite this, Mendip kept battling, but just couldn’t find the equaliser in the remaining minutes.
