IT WAS a weekend where thousands of runners descended on London to run the marathon, and three participants were busy representing Radstock’s own Somer Athletics Club.

Rosie, Mark and Laurie pounded the 26.2 miles, with the distinctive Somer vest being spotted on the BBC coverage.  The training of the winter months was rewarded as personal bests were smashed. Meanwhile, the Somer shirt wasn’t confined to the capital as runners enjoyed the spring weather at events in Worcestershire and Devon.

Closer to home, more than 40 Somer runners of all ages descended on the annual St Georges event in Corsham.  With a 10km run and a 2km juniors event, Somer’s black and yellow colours were prominent.  Impressive performances saw Somer’s Dylan win the 2km event, with Roxy winning her age category, with all the Somer juniors enjoying the benefits of their winter coaching sessions.  The 10km race also saw great times as youth members showed the seniors a clean pair of heels on a cool yet sunny April morning.

Seniors meet Tues/Thurs at Norton Hill School; youth and juniors meet at Downside School on Thursdays during term times.  Drop them a line at [email protected] or visit their facebook or Instagram pages.
