Somer Valley Walking Festival aims to encourage local people and visitors to explore the beauty of the local countryside and also to discover its rich heritage.
All walks and activities are free of charge. The next festival will be held on Saturday 9th and Sunday, 10th September 2023. Walks will take place from various venues across the Somer Valley. After an enjoyable welcome in 2022 we will again use The Conygre Hall Timsbury as our walking centre on Sunday, 10th September.

Sunday, 10th September – start time 10 am (book in at 9.30am) at Conygre Hall, North Road, Timsbury BA2 0JQ will be the Festival long walk of a ten mile circular walk taking in the Cam Valley, Camerton Court, Clandown bottom, Paulton and in reverse the route taken by Clare Balding during her Radio 4 ‘Ramblings’ programme. Festival medium walk will be a 7.5 mile circular walk up to Tunley across the Somer Valley, wooded areas, Priston, Inglebatch and Priston Mill, Farmborough Common and Northfield: Leader: Graham 01761 233807.
The Festival short walk will be a six mile circular walk, an opportunity to discover the industrial heritage of the area whilst enjoying the natural landscape.
Views as far as Harptree escarpment as you pass through the village into fields and then down onto the Somersetshire Coal Canal now a haven for nature. Walking to the top of Tunley Hill and fields back to Timsbury: Leader: Richard C 07803 609550
Festival Afternoon Stroller – start time 2.00pm (book in 1.30pm) will be a 3.6 mile leisurely walk rising out of Timsbury towards Farmborough Common and the Lammas fields. Out towards the edge of Priston and back through the tranquil valley, rising up hill to Northfield area of the village.
Tea/Coffee and cakes await you on your return from each walk.

How to join in:
The walks are free and most do not require booking. You are welcome to turn up on the day and register at the start (except for the Saturday Limestone Link Walk, the Family Walk and the Nordic Walking Tasters which must be booked via Eventbrite. (www.eventbrite.co.uk)
Children: Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on all the walks.
Dogs: Well-behaved dogs, on a short lead, are welcome unless otherwise specified.
What should I wear/ bring? For all the walks appropriate footwear should be worn, with walking boots recommended for the longer routes. Please dress for changes in the weather with layers of clothing, waterproofs , hat and sunscreen. Please bring any food and drink you may need, with plenty of water in the event of warm weather. If you would like to bring your own map you will need Explorer 142/155.
Registration:
Registration for all morning walks on Sunday 10th September is at 09:30am onwards and 1:30pm for the afternoon walk at the Conygre Hall, Timsbury BA2 0JQ.
