The hockey season has come to a close, with all five Mendip Hockey Senior teams finishing in strong league positions.
After a fiercely fought battle in East Division, the Ladies’ First team finished in fourth place, just one point off third, and the only team to avoid defeat to second-placed Clifton Robinsons. Captain April Callow was able to build a consistent squad with an excellent mix of youth and experience, with four Under-18 players securing regular First team spots. This can only bode well moving forward.
The Ladies’ Seconds were unbeaten in the final four fixtures of their Brunel 1 campaign to finish safely above the relegation zone in seventh position. Meanwhile, the Thirds finished in second place in Brunel 3, narrowly losing out to Cheddar Seconds in their bid for the league title.
The Men’s first team finished in third place in Central 2, despite an excellent win over second-placed Chippenham late in the season. Meanwhile, the Seconds secured a solid 8th position in West Central 2, enjoying notable wins against Midsomerset, Keynsham and Weston-super-Mare on the way.
The Junior section also continues to flourish, under the coaching team of Karen Holliwell and Cherilyn Carey.
The future is bright!
