Rovers sealed a thrilling victory in a game that ebbed and flowed, though scrappy at times, with a nail-biting second half for the crowd.
Jon Davies shot wide after two minutes and then had a great run down the right, winning a corner which he took from the left side which was firmly headed home by Shayne Anson.
Scott Brice headed narrowly wide. Tim Sills responded for Weymouth, heading straight into home keeper, Kyle Phillips' hands.
Stuart Yetton shot wildly over for the visitors. On the half-hour, Davies linked with Mitchell Page and Scott Wilson as Rovers pressed for a second.
Dean Evans, returning to Winterfield Road after his move to Dorset, was having a quiet game until he set up a chance for Yetton. With two minutes of the half left, Sills was shown a straight red for an alleged elbow on Clayton Green.
The second period saw a livelier display from Weymouth, with the impressive winger, Chris Shephard, at the heart of many moves.
His shot on the hour was goalbound but blocked and then he found Evans, whose shot was held by Phillips.
Davies drove wide on seventy minutes, then Yetton nearly levelled, hitting the post with Phillips beaten.
With the referee showing too many yellow cards to both sides, the game was in danger of boiling over.
Davies set up Jordan Walker, clipping a half-
volley just wide. Weymouth pressed to the end and a dangerous high lob from Ash Wells was well held by Phillips.
