Goals from Ash Wilson and Brad Richards, of Frome Town Sports Reserves, were enough to beat a spirited Peasedown Reserves team, 2–0, in the final of the Moorland Cup, played at Shepton Mallet last Friday. Peasedown tried hard from the start, but could not penetrate the Frome back line to score, with Man of the Match, Matt Bullus, playing a big part in his side's victory.
Stoke Rovers kept up their winning run by beating Westfield A, 7–1. They need one win from their last two games to get promoted as First Division champions. Clutton beat third-placed Pilton, 2–0, which has put them out of the running for promotion this season, leaving the fight for champions and runner-up positions between Stoke and Clutton.
Peasedown Reserves received their Second Division winners' trophies at the Moorland Cup Final last Friday, with President, Brian Wells, presenting the awards.
Radstock A dented High Littleton's hope of promotion from the Second Division with a 2–1 away win on Saturday. In the week, High Littleton kept up their challenge with a hard-fought 2–1 win away to bottom club, Timsbury Reserves.
Both Tunley Reserves and High Littleton are still in the running for the runners-up spot.
There were no games played in the Third Division last Saturday, as the day was devoted to the Willmott Cup rounds played at Writhlington, where local rivals, Pensford Reserves and Chew Magna Reserves, managed to get through some tough games to contest the final at Shepton this Friday, kick-off at 7.30 p.m.
The reporter was not available for games last Saturday as he was watching local lad made good, Ashley Barnes, from Dunkerton, provide the pass which set up the win for Burnley against Ipswich, 1–0.
Ashley was presented with his runners-up medal with the rest of the Burnley team after the game at Turf Moor. Well done, mate.
