The Arrows netball team travelled to Glastonbury last Saturday to face Thorns in their penultimate match of the season. Despite heavy rain in the warm-up, the weather brightened up for the start of the first quarter where Shannon and Bethany worked hard, moving the ball well through the midcourt so that Arrows
finished the quarter ahead of Thorns, 8–4.
With no changes made to the line-up, Arrows took to the court determined to extend their lead. Defenders, Harriet and Leela, ensured that the ball stayed well away from Thorns’ shooters and so Arrows stayed comfortably ahead with the quarter ending 19–7.
The defence kept the pressure on Thorns’ shooters going into the third quarter with Players’ Player, Harriet and Opponents’ player, Shannon, making brilliant interceptions meaning that shooters, Rebecca and Pip, had lots of opportunities to score. Emily at WD, making her debut in the senior league, supported both attack and defensive play throughout the court well and the quarter ended 34–10 to Arrows.
In the final quarter, Arrows extended their lead even further with fantastic movement from Pip and Rebecca in the shooting circle, relentless interceptions from the defence and brilliant pressure in the midcourt to finish the match 52–12. Arrows would like to thank the umpires and the spectators who travelled to support them.
