CAMERTON and Peasedown Croquet Club field nine teams across several croquet disciplines meaning both their low handicap players and those holding much higher handicaps can all enjoy competitive play throughout the summer.

The CPCC AC Federation team played their first match of the season against Kington Langley, who travelled from Chippenham with only three players. The CPCC team of Mark Godfrey-James, Colin Britt, Si Dunk and Simon Munton decided that Si Dunk would play in the morning and Simon Munton would play in the afternoon.

The morning session consisted of a doubles game which Colin and Si lost 17-18 and a singles game which Mark won 19-15. The afternoon session saw three singles games played. Mark won his game 26-15, Colin lost 3-26 and Simon won 26-10. Overall, a very good win for Camerton and Peasedown 3-2.

Also in May, in a Golf Croquet Level play match away against a Bristol team, the CPCC team of Colin Britt (capt.), Nigel Wulko, Mo Boys, David Milford and David Richards again came out winners 12-8.

The CPCC High Handicap team were on good form for their first match against Weston-Super-Mare.

As the six CPCC players arrived at the club on that Tuesday morning they had their hearts in their mouths; but it wasn’t the opposition that they feared, it was the weather forecast!

This ranged from dire to abysmal, with heavy showers expected. In the event, the weather gods smiled on both the home club and the visiting team of five relatively inexperienced players from Weston-Super-Mare.

Eighteen games of Golf Croquet were played with no interruption and CPCC ran out winners 15-3. All six CPCC players contributed wins, with Sue Wagstaff and Peter Buchanan winning all their games. All Weston’s points involved Michael Low, who had apparently only been playing the game for a few weeks!
