A vastly understrength Timsbury 1st XI proved no match for Stapleton in the Bristol and District League Senior Division and were beaten at home by 8 wickets.

After being put into bat the home side made a promising start with opener Mark Sage taking a liking to the bowling of Hussnain Sajid who conceded 21 in his three overs before being removed from the attack. The introduction of the experienced Babar Pervaiz soon changed things with Sage departing the scene for 27 after getting a leading edge. Jack Williams showed some defiance before going for 21 but the innings never got going although a last wicket stand between Oli Hulbert and Martin Richards did achieve one bonus point as the home side were dismissed for 130. Pervaiz finished with 5-22.

Pervaiz then turned his attention to his batting as Timsbury wilted in the sun. He followed his bowling with 59 and with fellow opener Sam Millard undefeated on 58 Stapleton cruised to victory with more than 24 overs left. Dropped catches didn’t help the home cause but there was some consolation for Richards who marked his first team debut with both the wickets to fall to end with a creditable 2-30 from his six overs.

Timsbury second eleven put up a brave fight before going down by 23 runs away to Stapleton 2ndX! in the Bristol and District League Division 5. The visitors were always up against it after Stapleton compiled an imposing 267-2 from their 40 overs but they gave it a really good go. Third team captain Laurie Jones (52) and Dan Hill (31) gave them a good start and Tristan Versfeld in his first game for the team kept up the momentum with a hard hitting 47. Captain Ben Hosford finished unbeaten with 45 but in the end it was just asking too much.
