For the second year in a row the Toolstation Western League are running research into player welfare.

The research is being conducted by Bath based, Cognisant Research, who have collaborated with Mind in Somerset to develop a survey targeted at footballers in the Toolstation Western League. The survey considers a number of issues, including players mental wellbeing and their experiences of abuse and discrimination.

The research is part of an ongoing programme of work that involves raising the profile of mental health issues, particularly amongst young men, as well as providing Clubs with support services available to them through their local Mind groups. Starting in Bath, the Western League have developed relationships with Mind charities in Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall, as well as the key partnership with Mind in Somerset that covers 12 member Clubs.

The welfare survey is not publicly available. The League have provided all member Clubs with a link for them to pass on to players, so any player interested in participating in this important project should contact their Club secretary for further information.
