Welton Rovers' Manager, Nick Beaverstock, has praised the players retained from Welton Rovers' promotion-winning squad, as well as enthusing about soon-to-be-announced signings.
Prior to the First Team's friendly match with Mangotsfield United, Nick Beaverstock spoke of his delight at retaining key players from last season's promotion campaign. He said: "Summer always ends up being focused on new signings and in that time, it's important not to forget those that you retain from the previous season. I'm delighted with every player from last year who has signed on again.
"The team spirit we've got at the club was a massive part of our success last year and keeping the core of the squad helps retain that. There are players who have re-signed this year who have been offered big money by other clubs and that they've decided to stay at Welton is a great show of character from them. I'm confident that with the lads that we've brought in, this season's squad is an improvement on what was already a great team and I think we can show that next season."
Pressed on those who have departed, Beaverstock remained upbeat: "There are some good players who've left us, no doubt about that, and the club wishes them well for the coming season. The lads who've retired, Burt (Mark Reynolds), Kinger and Stoner will be missed, for their experience and quality, but the other boys have learnt a lot from them in the past couple of seasons and that will show. It's a shame to see Joner and Ricky move on from the club, but we have to respect that, they'll be welcomed back if things don't work out."
Welton are set to announce the club's new signings soon. Beaverstock said: "I think some clubs are a bit premature to announce new signings so early in pre-season, as until pen is put to paper and forms are submitted, it means nothing. We've got six or seven quality new players signed on. I'm very happy with their efforts to impress in training and how quickly they've gelled. Supporters of Welton Rovers will be very happy when to see them in action."Players retained from last season are: Steve Bridges, Ritchie Chandler, Anthony Conradi, Dan Cottle, Joe Garland, Chris Peck, Ryan Perry, Dan Scriven, Tom Smith and Jack Winter.
