Welton's impressive form continued at a freezing cold West Clewes when they ran riot over their visitors from Wiltshire. Before the kick-off, there was an impeccable minute's silence for Welton stalwart, Andrew Dando, who sadly passed away recently.
It was the visitors who started the more lively and Stuart Windsor pounced when Welton lost possession and he raced through, only to shoot straight at Welton keeper, Andy King. Welton responded and good work from Ryan Allen saw him set up Anthony Conradi, but his volley was saved by Steve Allinson. Windsor then thought he had given Calne the lead when his diving header flew into the Welton net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Welton took the lead in the ninth minute, when a free kick was awarded on the edge of the Calne box after Conradi was fouled. Up stepped Tom Pawley, who launched an unstoppable strike that flew into the net.
A minute later, Welton got a second, when good play down the right by Joe Garland saw him turn his marker, race into the area and deliver a low cross that was met by Conradi, who made no mistake with his shot.
The visitors were shell-shocked and had no answer to Welton's attacking play. Just before the half-hour, Welton were awarded another free kick on the right. Dan Cottle's delivery saw the ball fly over to the far post where Welton defender, Ricky Scott, had crept up behind the Calne defence to score from close range. Allen then fell awkwardly and hurt his shoulder and was replaced by Mark Reynolds. His first touch was a 25-yard screamer that was inches wide of the target. Then just before half-time, Steve Bridges tore through the Calne defence and fired in a cracking shot that was brilliantly saved one-handed by Allinson.
The second half saw Welton continue their attack on the visitors' defence and it wasn't long before they got a fourth goal. Great combination play between Bridges and Reynolds saw the ball delivered to Welton Captain, Chris Peck, in space in the Calne area and he thumped his effort into the net. Allinson then saved well to deny Garland who was having a fine game for Welton.
Tom Smith then came on for Cottle. It was becoming a bit of a free-for-all for Welton, as efforts from Peck, Reynolds and Scott rained in. A terrific 35-yard crossfield pass from Smith found Reynolds free at the far post and he headed home to score Welton's fifth goal.
A minute later, the visitors gave away another free kick on the edge of the area. Up stepped Pawley again and his shot flew into the Calne net, an almost exact copy of his first-half effort. With full time fast approaching, Welton completed with a seventh goal. The ball fell to Reynolds, unmarked on the edge of the area, he turned and drilled in a shot that kept low and flew into the visitors' net.
