DESPITE the continuing awful weather resulting in the closure of many courses, Mendip Golf Club did not finally succumb to the elements until Saturday, February 7.
The Pro Shop Singles Stableford was won by John Russell with 41 points, with William Burns 2nd with 39, Andrew Thatcher 3rd with 37 with Rupert Perkins 4th with 36 after count back from Andrew Bayley and Dave Harvey
The Social Golf event, a 4 person winter waltz, was won by two father and daughter pairs, Steve Morris, the club’s excellent catering and bar manager, playing with daughter Lauren and Chris Howerd playing with his daughter Harper, they scored 87 points. Runners up were Hayley Bullock,Phillip McKenny, Rosemary Brown and John Ward with 84.
A further Pro Shop Stableford saw a win for Spencer Pocock with 37 points with Peter Walford 2nd with 36 and Andy Walton 3rd with 34.
The Pro Shop 4 person Bowmaker saw a win for Roland Greenway/Stefan Golledge/David Golledge/Andrew Shakesby with 92 points. In 2nd place came Philip Bendall/Richard Clifford/Cliff Hall/Ethan Bendall with 91. In 3rd place were Kelvin Adams/Frank Collins/Michael Blowers/Paul Davies with 88 and David Goldie/William Burns/Adrian Cross/Rob Beattie were 4th with 87 after count back.
Fifty-five brave Seniors tackled the Stableford held in heavy rain. In the circumstances the scoring was remarkably good with the overall winner after count back, Angus Henderson, scoring 40 points. Division 1 went to Richard White with 34 with Dave Harvey 2nd with 33 after a 5 person count back. Division 2 was won by Peter Walford with another 40 points with John Fisher 2nd with 35 and Gareth Collier 3rd with 32. Division 3 was won by Stephen Smith with 37, Martin Roper was 2nd with 36 and Stephen Manning 3rd with 34. Tony Williams
