New Welton Rovers Chairman, Stuart Minall, speaks of his enthusiasm for the challenges facing Welton Rovers at the start of his tenure.
Having been in the job for only a matter of weeks, new Chairman, Stuart Minall, has been assessing what needs to be done at Welton Rovers FC.
"The main task when I first joined was to get some new blood in. No disrespect to club stalwarts like Malcolm Price and Tim Rogers, but they need much more support and more hands were needed to lighten the load. To a large extent we've done that, Clayton, Gareth and Stuart all bring different qualities and to get three new Directors in like that, one a famous musician, one a long-standing clubman and another, a quality regional business adviser, is as good as I could have hoped for. Notwithstanding that though, we've had a couple of other local business owners who have enquired about becoming involved and those conversations will hopefully continue.
"Being honest, in terms of running a Western League Football Club, we're three months behind where we should be, people know that and I hope they will be patient with us. We're just tying up a kit deal that we're really excited about, as we've developed links with a Football League kit supplier who want to use our club to market their products. We are finalising our plans for the redesigned matchday programme and we've sold a number of new advertising hoardings, but we want to sell thirty by the end of the season and we think that's realistic.
"The redevelopment of the stand is also moving in the right direction and we hope to be able to announce our progress soon. Thus, we will be putting a plan together to raise what we expect could be in the region of £20,000 to £30,000, which we will need to get together as soon as possible. That's going to include a number of club members running the Bath Half Marathon in March 2014, a Past Players Dinner, likely to be in February 2014, and we've already got our eye on a live music night at the end of the 2013–14 season. In the shorter term, we have the National Non-League Day on 7th September, when we host Petersfield in the FA Vase at West Clewes. We're going to combine that with something of a Club Fun Day, culminating in a Hamster Racing Evening after the game. There will be plenty of food and drink to provide energy and nourishment. We want as many people to come along to the game and for the fun in the evening as possible, as we really want people to see what we've managed to achieve in a short space of time and begin the process of getting local people back to the club.
"So, it's all go! Ideas and enthusiasm aren't in short supply, but time and spare pairs of hands are, oh, and we could always do with a few new sponsors! However, one thing is for sure, as a group, I can see that there is the energy and drive to make the club truly successful again. I think more people in the town will want to become a part of that and I am looking forward to the challenge."
Next week, the club will announce a number of new signings.
