Welton Rovers head into the 2013/14 season with a squad in rude health following the acquisition of several new signings for the First Team.

"I'm really pleased with the work we have done this pre-season in terms of new players," said new Welton Boss, Nick Beaverstock. "We've put in a lot of effort to get half a dozen new players to add to the guys who were here at the end of last season."

Andy Keen, Ricky Chandler, Jamie Taylor and Chris Peck all bring vital new qualities to a squad which retains the vast majority of last year's playing staff.

From Odd Down comes ball-playing centre-half, Ricky Chandler, arguably the star of Welton's pre-season campaign, which has seen him look very comfortable and assured against Southern League opposition.

Similarly impressive in pre-season has been returning centre forward, Andy Keen. Prolific in his last season with the club in 2011/12, the Green Army faithful will be hoping for a similar return to the 22 goals he scored then and that his presence will provide a real boost to the younger members of the Welton squad. Midfielder, Chris Peck, is who Beaverstock considers his most 'important' signing, declaring he'll become: "The heart of the team, with a huge engine to close the opposition down all day long." Skilful attacker, Taylor, signed from Paulton, offers a further goal threat.

In even more recent days, Welton have been further augmented by the acquisitions of former Bath City full-back, Brad Newman, who Beaverstock describes as: "Very good on the ball and a great talker, a massive example to the younger players." Youngster, Lee Rowlands, from nearby Purnells, who Beaverstock tips to make the step-up this season and the: "Big and loud for ninety minutes" returning goalkeeper, Andy King.

Welton Rovers begin their league campaign this Saturday, 10th August with a trip to Cheddar and then are back in action just three days later at West Clewes, on Tuesday, 13th August, versus Devizes Town, kick- off at 7.30 p.m.
