Welton made it three wins on the trot and ended Corsham's unbeaten league start to the season with a hard-fought victory over their visitors from Wiltshire.

Before kick-off, there was a minute's silence held for Karen Goddard, who sadly passed away on Saturday morning. Karen was involved with Welton for forty years and was the friendly face that ran the tea hut and provided refreshments for the players over the years. The thoughts of all connected with Welton are with Karen's family at this difficult time.

The game got underway with Welton pressing early on and causing the Corsham defence several problems. A quality cross from Ben Harris saw a Corsham defender chest the ball back to his keeper under considerable pressure. Further Welton efforts saw Conradi's teasing runs across the area put Corsham's back four under pressure, then a fine long-range shot from Dan Cottle flew over the bar. Welton's pressure eventually paid off in the 25th minute, when Rhys Cook's square ball on the edge of the Corsham area found Anthony Conradi in space and he calmly slotted the ball past Nick Gingell in the Corsham goal. The visitors responded and a shot on the turn from the lively Kieren Gleed flashed past the Welton goal. Just before half-time, a free kick from Levi Cox was well saved by Andy King in the Welton goal.

The second half began with both sides going all out and a thunderbolt from thirty yards out, by Sam Ockwell, saw King gather well. Welton responded and Conradi broke through the static Corsham defence, but his final effort went wide of the target. Minutes later, Welton got their second goal, when Harris raced down the right, delivered a great cross that set up Cook at the edge of the area. As Gingell raced out of his goal to close him down, the youngster calmly lobbed the ball over the keeper and watched it roar into the empty net, much to the delight of the Green Army. The visitors then went all out to reduce the deficit and were rewarded in the 75th minute, when the lively Gleed raced towards goal from the left, his shot took a deflection which beat King at the near post. The visitors continued to press and, just before the final whistle, thought they had got the equaliser when Nick Holton headed home, but referee Halford ruled the goal out for a push. This deserved win for Welton moved them up to sixth in the league.
