Welton Rovers are pleased to announce the return of Lorne Wilkinson to the club. He is joined by Paul Edwards and Brian Smith to form the new Under-18s' management team. Wilkinson was previously Reserve Team boss at West Clewes, but, in recent seasons, has been Under-18s supremo at Paulton Rovers, with Edwards and Smith. The decision means that Tim Curtis' spell at West Clewes comes to an end. Chairman, Stu Minall, explained the change: "Tim has worked very hard the last few seasons and we thank him for that, but he is very much involved in Chilcompton Sports and they have their own objectives and ambitions. We want to see more players progress from our Under-18s into our Reserve and First Teams and I believe that means a change in direction, Lorne and Brian, in particular, are well known to us, so it makes sense." Wilkinson is similarly pleased: "It was a tough decision for us to make. Paulton is a great club, but we just felt we wanted to see our hard work translate into players moving into senior football and that is more likely to happen at West Clewes, you only have to look at the progress Dan Cottle made coming here last season. It's also a club on the up, the vibe is good and the Chairmanship of Stu Minall, with a group of new Directors, was a big attraction to us." Also arriving at West Clewes is Steve Dix, who will become the club's Goalkeeping Coach. Nick Beaverstock, Malcolm Beck, Greg Langridge and Barry Ingram will continue as the management team for the First Team and Reserves respectively. Pre-season friendlies will be announced soon. Following a recent meeting of the club's Directors, the decision has been taken to press ahead with the redevelopment of the grandstand at West Clewes during this summer. Club Director, Stuart Rogers, explained: "Since announcing the approval of our grant application a few weeks ago, as a football club we've had a lot of messages of support and an upsurge of expressions of interest in supporting Welton Rovers. We've examined our cashflow position carefully and spoken to our project partners about when they can sensibly deliver. We're hoping that the work will be done by the start of the season – it's possible it will run over by a week or two, but considering the prize up for grabs, I don't think that should be a major issue. "Great credit needs to be given to Dave Gilson and Malcolm Price, who have done most of the leg work on this project and we also need to thank the Town Council and Somerset FA for their support, too." The new stand will be ordered shortly and the current stand is expected to be demolished in the next couple of weeks once final sign-off is received from B&NES Council. Once the site is cleared, groundwork will commence to create a pad upon which the new stand will be installed.
