The ninth Annual Club Championships Finals Day for Writhlington Tennis Club took place on Sunday at the indoor tennis centre at Writhlington Leisure.
A good crowd of spectators gathered from 10 a.m. for a day of tennis that included Finals for Adults’ Mixed Doubles, Mixed Veteran’s Doubles, Men’s and Ladies’ Singles and Men’s and Ladies Doubles, as well as three Junior Finals for U14s and U16s.
The finalists for the day had won through the earlier rounds, which had been keenly contested throughout September. Around forty club members took part overall this year, and whilst the tennis was competitive, the atmosphere as always was friendly and sporting.
This was true on finals day too, where the finalists, ranging in age from thirteen to over-sixty, delivered some fantastic tennis, played in great spirit. Patrick Lodge, umpire for the championships, said: “We have seen some great tennis this year; the standard seems to get better and better and the mood is always positive and friendly.”
To end the day, the traditional Coaches Exhibition match was followed by a delicious afternoon tea for all and the presentation of prizes, bringing another successful Club Championships to a close.
