THE Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for the south of England this Saturday.

The yellow weather warning will be in effect from 9am until 7pm on Saturday, June 7.

Somerset residents should expect frequent heavy showers thunderstorms throughout most of the day, with cloudy skies, lighter rain, and some sunnier weather into the evening.

10-15 mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, whilst some places could see 30-40 mm of rain over several hours from successive showers and thunderstorms.

Frequent lightning, hail and strong, gusty winds may be additional hazards.

The Met Office has warned of dangerous driving conditions and delayed transport services, alongside possible building damage and power loss from lighting strikes.
