The award-winning Bath Opera bring their highly anticipated new production of Verdi’s 1851 masterpiece, Rigoletto to Midsomer Norton Town Hall on Friday, 23rd June at 7.30 p.m. The special concert is the highlight of this year’s Midsomer Arts Festival, which runs from the 16th to the 28th June and marks their first return to the venue since their triumphant sold out production of Madame Butterfly at part of last year’s event.

Rigoletto is packed with glorious tunes and intense emotion, it takes the audience on a roller-coaster ride of joy, love, despair and murder. Based around the court of the libertine Duke of Mantua, this production is set in 1930s Italy, in the decadent years before the Second World War.

But Rigoletto has a secret: his beautiful daughter, Gilda, whom he keeps hidden away to preserve her honour. She is everything to him and he is terrified that someone in this amoral, licentious city will find and seduce her. He doesn’t realise that some of the courtiers have already discovered her and, thinking she’s his mistress, are planning to kidnap her.

This year’s Arts Festival is bigger than ever before and includes a range of concerts, arts displays, cinema screenings, live theatre broadcasts and much more.
