CELEBRATIONS for the Scottish bard Robert Burns started in Kingfisher Lodge care centre in Saltford with a skirling of bagpipes played by a very talented local piper Ruby Darbyshire.
Ruby played while walking the entirety of the home so every resident had the chance to hear the traditional Scottish music. She later entertained in the lounges on her guitar.
Brenda, one of the residents, said: “I heard the pipes playing then all of a sudden I saw this wonderful young lady in full Scottish national dress playing and it took me back to my holidays touring Bonnie Scotland with my late husband.”
After residents shared some poetry by Rabie Burns and feasted on a dinner of haggis, neeps and tatties with a wee dram of whiskey to wash it down.
