DNA arts will be hosting the second Round-about Radstock on Saturday, 28th May (from 12 noon – 6 p.m.), a free arts event produced by the community arts project and their partners, Desperate Men and Natural Theatre.

The event, which first took place in 2015, invites audiences on a journey across Radstock; exploring and discovering hidden locations, meeting new and unusual characters and experiencing the town in a whole new way.

Round-about Radstock boasts a free programme of live music, food, entertainment, performances from Natural Theatre, Desperate Men and arts, dance and music workshops from noon to 4 p.m., followed by a foot-stomping barn dance in Radstock Working Men’s Club from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Event goers are encouraged to collect a ‘DNA Arts Passport’ for their travels and collect passport stamps by taking part in the events activities across the town. If you collect five stamps, you earn free pizza and a discount to the evening show.

Mark Bishop, Natural Theatre Company’s Participation Co-ordinator, said: “Following last year’s phenomenally successful Round-about Radstock event, this year we are turning Radstock into the ultimate journey destination.

“There will be the usual silliness with characters from the Desperate Men and

Natural Theatre making your journey an entertaining and memorable one, as well as lots of arts activities to get stuck into at every turn. It’s all about giving the people of Radstock a good time, as well as tapping into their creative side. Fill your passport with stamps, your belly with pizza and your day with fun!”

Chloe Edgell, DNA arts Project Manager, said: “This year’s event offers more free entertainment and arts activities – we see the addition of eighteen silk flags inspired by local wildlife, rivers and streams made by local schools and people. A dance workshop programme, including salsa, cha-cha and hip hop, plus an all-day music workshop and a line-up of young musical talent from Musician’s South West School, Bath Festival’s Building Bridges project and DNA arts’ ‘Next Generation Tour’.

“This and more of last year’s favourites, like the Walled Gardens clay pizza oven and Acoustic Sessions outdoor show, will take place in six local venues: St Nicholas Church field, Swallow Café, Radstock Library, the Working Men’s Club, Trinity Methodist Church hall and Leigh House Garden.”

Being launched by DNA arts and Radstock and Westfield Big Local is this year’s Seeds of Change; the ‘Pumpkin Project’. The Big Local team will be encouraging young and old to plant and grow their own pumpkin plant from their stall.

Sarah Westell of Big Local said: “We’re really excited to launch this project where local residents are invited to grow their own pumpkins for a DNA arts project in October where there will be free pumpkin carving and baking workshops and competitions to make best use of your home grown pumpkin.”

Later in the evening, there will be a discounted performance at Victoria Hall for

everyone who presents their completed arts passport.
