Local Historian, Storyteller and Museum Trustee, Martin Horler, will be taking you on a tour of the local pubs when, back-in-the-day, all manner of activities took place in the pursuit of entertainment.
Martin is a well-known, engaging speaker who will bring the past to life with his illustrated talk which promises to be captivating.
Martin says: “When I was researching for a talk I gave at the Museum on lost pubs around this area, I was amazed at the activities that went on in the village pubs – they were the centre of social and commercial life.
“The activities included things I have never heard of, such as sparrow clubs, pinks shows, candle auctions. Then there were activities not for the faint hearted – such as cock fighting, bare knuckle fighting and rat tail clubs, courts with the power to hang people – such a diverse range of activities that I can fit into an hour’s talk.”
Come and enjoy discovering your local past; the Bygone Days Team look forward to welcoming you all to what will be a very entertaining evening. Visit: radstockmuseum.co.uk for details.
