The garden is still an added attraction for visitors and photos of the greenhouse appear from early in the 20th century. Now volunteer gardeners Sherrie and Elliot are looking for plants for their newly cleared vegetable plot.
Head of Gardens Gail Coleshill says: “At this time of year many gardeners have spare plants and the volunteers at the station are hoping that some of them might find their way up here.
“Many of our plants are grown in the greenhouse and we have vegetable beds planted by the greenhouse too but we don’t have any spare. Sherrie and Elliot have done such a splendid weed clearing job that we would like to get some vegetables in before the weeds grow again.
Plants can be brought up to the station most days when volunteers are working or they can be left under the canopy on the platform. The gardeners volunteer on most Tuesdays. Any new volunteers would be welcome and training in plant and garden work is free. Gail Coleshill
